April 2001 - 350 Cards

Seventh Edition is the only core set since Alpha to have introduced new art for each card. Although as a base set, Seventh Edition introduced no new cards, several popular cards that had been missing from the preceding editions of the core set (Serra Angel, Shivan Dragon, and Mahamoti Djinn) made return appearances. Also, some notable cards were reprinted in the base set for the first time. These included Coat of Arms, Persecute, Worship and Goblin Matron.

A white-bordered set, it was first available on April 2, 2001. The set contained 350 cards. It was the first Core Set to introduce black-bordered foils. The expansion symbol was a stylized 7. It would also include the last starter level product released by Wizards of the Coast.

It was the last base set to be released prior to the final expansion of the then-current block (7th Edition was released before Apocalypse). Starting with 8th Edition, the base set editions (now known as Core Set editions) were released after the last expansion of the then-current block and before the first expansion of the subsequent block.
